Carry Wikipedia On A Flash Drive

image

Webaroo—producers of a web-to-go program—and U3—the flash drive applications company—have combined their technologies to allow flash drive users to download entire websites to flash drives

Webaroo—in its original form—allows users to download websites to their laptops or portable devices (such as a Palm) for use without an internet connection. Webaroo offers a variety of “web packs”—preselected sets of sites grouped around particular topics. For example, you can get webpacks with regional news, news on sports and teams, travel information, health information and more. One of the web packs offered allows you to download the famous Wikipedia.

You also can download your own specified sites. The software automatically updates the web packs and sites when you reconnect to the internet.

That’s all neat enough. But with the new agreement with U3, it’s going to be possible to store all of this on a flash drive which you can use on any available computer. The Wikipedia pack will take 6 GB—which makes it out of reach of most flash drives—but there are a few high end ones that will handle it. There also are any number of micro hard drives that will handle the task. Note that the 6Gb includes text only.
